After “Voronia” took to the stage during Teatro Viriato's 20-year anniversary, Marcus Morau is back again with “Sonoma”. With a title that combines the Greek word soma (body) and the Latin term sonum (sound), this work is inspired by the surrealism of Luis Buñuel, the dream-like world of this subversive and iconoclastic film director.
“Sonoma” incorporates the presence of drums and a huge cross on stage. A woman is nailed to this cross, lifted, and then removed. Surrounding the cross, nine interpreters recite evangelical beatitudes. A show that comes from the need for human beings to return to their bodies, when they are at the limit of their existence and cry out for survival.
