This show brings us an immersive journey through the cultural phenomenon of Pimba music (an umbrella term for Portuguese types or genres of music with an uptempo style and folk song features, corny romantic or vulgar lyrics, which is often associated with poorly educated public from rural areas and suburban poor or working-class neighbourhoods, as well as with Portuguese economic migrants living abroad) using it as critical, sensitive matter, questioning the ideas of masculinity transversal to the genre – exaggeration and fragility, laughter and symbolic violence.

Three artists with very different careers – white, European, cisgender men of different generations – expose their bodies to analysis and confrontation, using dance, text and music to question and expand the meaning of “masculinity”.

Instead of reinventing Pimba, they propose a contrasting existence within it, subverting its language and exposing its codes, in order to understand in which way Pimba culture shaped and still shapes our perceptions of masculinity, affection and power.
