TRISTEZA E ALEGRIA NA VIDA DAS GIRAFAS

A nine year old girl, called giraffe by her own mother for being too tall for her age, travels around the city of Lisbon searching for the only person who can possibly help her: portuguese prime-minister Pedro Passos Coelho. During the course of this pertinent quest she crosses paths with characters that strike a chord with most people. The financial crisis, the heroic adventure of a suicidal teddy-bear, the Discovery Channel, a violin player who is nothing more than a photograph, a black panther, the school dictionary published by Editorial Sampaio and the bulgarian scientist or russian playwright Anton Tchekhov are some of the things that make up this strange world called Lisbon.
In a Tristeza e alegria na vida das girafas, Tiago Rodrigues once again wields the weapon known as theatre, trying to interfere with our perception not only of political and social realities but also with the reality surrounding theatre itself. And he does it through the voice of a child presenting a school project, while taking on the daunting task of trying to explain the world. Dipped into the hopeful darkness of a child's imaginarium, this show fears what children think about and angers at what adults do.
