THE ROOTS

Dance

Kader Attou, dancer, choreographer and director of the Centre Chorégraphique National de La Rochelle, France, revisits the past, and manages to revive not only some of his childhood memories (the TV programme about Hip-Hop that he used to watch as a kid, his American-style boxing classes and his parents' living room), but also the kinetic muscle memories from the first projects he created.
In The Roots, the choreographer brings to the audience twenty years of a career influenced by several artistic styles, such as Hip-Hop, Indian Classical Dance and Contemporary Dance. On the stage, eleven talented Hip-Hop dancers perform a kind of human adventure where each one's history is an integral part of the dramaturgy, guiding the audience through virtuous movements, rife with feeling and emotion, in a very humanist view of dance.
The international press considers Kader Attou a choreographer whose work always assumes a stance of multicultural preoccupation - positive and without discrimination.
