SETE LÁGRIMAS

Music

Founded in 1999 by Filipe Faria and Sérgio Peixoto, the Portuguese ensemble with 20 years of existence, presents in the 20 years of Teatro Viriato, Diáspora. A programme that, from the approach the the Portuguese expansion in the 15th century, dives into genres and musical forms from the five continents from yesterday and the present day, bringing new interpretative formulas from popular and erudite repertoires from the 16th to the 20th century. From the Iberian villancico to fado, from the black villancicos from the 16th/17th centuries to the Brazilian "chorinho", going from the African "mornas" and the traditional songs of Timor, Macau, India, Brazil, etc...  An experimental vertigo through the travel, path, pilgrimage, land, water, longing and for what remains today from all the yesterdays...
Profoundly dedicated to the dialogues from ancient music with contemporaneity, as well as the ones between erudite music with secular traditions, Sete Lágrimas gathers musicians from different musical horizons around conceptual projects brought to life by deep musicological investigations and innovative processes, of irreverence and creativity around the sounds, instruments and memories from ancient music.
