In Sem um tu não pode haver um eu, Paulo Ribeiro not only returns to the stage but does it alone - except for the company of Ingmar Bergman - to, maybe, build a choreography made of several kinds of happiness. He plunges into the "real words, those that carry life, those meaningful words that Ingmar Bergman filmed accompanied by fantastically long hours of vital life". "It's to these words and their songs that I would like to dance again, (maybe) for the last time..." writes the choreographer.
During his 31 year long career, Paulo Ribeiro danced his first and only solo piece, Modo de Utilização, in 1991, at the Bienal Universitária de Coimbra (BUC). In 2006, after having performed Malgré Nous, Nous Étions Là he announced that he would not return to the stage as a performer, but in JIM the audience realised that the breaking of that vow was imminent.
