EXHIBITION
Throughout 2014, Teatro Viriato employee and photographer, Carlos Fernandes, photographed twenty stage shows from a perspective of great proximity only accessible to those who toil, unseen, off the spotlight - backstage.
While not intending to be a behind-the-scenes peek at what truly happens behind a theatre curtain, Scene utilises perspective as a tridimensionality generating resource. The artist takes this premise and challenges the public to cast a different look at the various pieces, by reworking their habitual point of view (P.O.V.).
With this exhibition, and by shifting the P.O.V. from the audience and placing it backstage, Carlos Fernandes aims to crystalize other, rawer, dimensions divested of all props, accoutrements and other usual trappings of a stage venue.
