RITA BRAGA

Music

The universe of Rita Braga drinks inspiration from such disparate musical influences as Mozart, Bollywood, Serbian, Polish and Russian folk music, cowboy songs, jazz and 1920s novelty songs.
Used to the rigours of touring Europe and North America, the musician published in 2011, Cherries That Went To The Police, her first - and resoundingly acclaimed - LP, produced by Bernardo Devlin, that counted with the collaboration of several guests, like Chris Carlone, whom she had met during her travels. The set she now brings to Teatro Viriato collects an interesting panoply of traditional melodies sung in Portuguese, English, Russian and Greek, almost always accompanied by the ukulele, a XIX century chordophone based on the cavaquinho, that now, in the XXI century, Rita Braga recovers for this work.
A solo, intimate, performance, both on vocals and the ukulele, Rita Braga almost seems to be a character out of a classic motion picture bestowing us with inventive music that brings to mind times gone by.
