RICARDO TOSCANO e JOÃO PAULO ESTEVES DA SILVA

Music

Ricardo Toscano and João Paulo Esteves da Silva, musicians who belong to the national jazz scene, could not be more different from one another. If on the one hand the young saxophonist is totally tuned in to the African American heritage of jazz, on the other, the pianist has tried to give jazz a Portuguese identity, thus using the repertoire of the country's rural tradition. An encounter between these two is not, therefore, something that is exactly obvious, even though it can be explained by the admiration that Toscano has for the treatment of Portuguese harmony on the part of Esteves da Silva and by the constant renewed interest that the latter has for the roots of jazz, in such a way represented by his younger partner. If the first is going through a brilliant career start with the release of his first album to be expected soon, the second has already paved a path of great prominence.
