Built from a thorough collection of testimonies and life stories of people who lived in former Portuguese colonies at the time of decolonization, this venue was created to be specifically presented at Solar do Vinho do Dão, in Viseu, an emblematic location of this return process, and that served as one of the places of residence of the Instituto de Apoio ao Retorno de Nacionais (IARN) between 1975 and 1991 in this region. This collection of testimonies took place precisely inside the region of Viseu, an in-depth work that combines ethnographic field research, oral history, and historical research.
A performative approach to fragments of Portuguese history, that may enable a better understanding of the present, has been one of the primary missions of the Teatro do Vestido.
