Viewing dance as a field of metamorphosis with a fragile presence — and in response to the growing danger of genocides, wars, fascisms, dictatorships, climate disasters, massacres, violence and crisis all around us — Hugo Calhim Cristóvão and Joana von Mayer Trindade use dance as an alternative to erect unrepeatable moments, not cancellable by fear.
In this masterclass, they invite all participants to dive into the temporality of dance as an act of resilience and resistance. Based on philosophical concepts, they confront conflicting notions such as moment/eternity or permanence/impermanence, through the lens of both western dance and non-western dance, applying the same confrontation strategy to binomials such as heritage/innovation, art/circumstance and dance/philosophy.
