Published in 1614, Peregrinação compiles the curious and adventurous accounts of explorer Fernão Mendes Pinto, unveiling in this book several literary genres, several dangers, sacrifices, fears and obstacles that he faced in a mixture of facts and fiction. From this potential for cinematographic expression, Marcelo Lafontana recovers the renowned seafarer's narrative voyage and crossbreeds his Paper Theatre with audio/visual and multimedia resources.
In a stage turned movie studio, hand drawn cardboard cut-out characters and backdrops are manipulated in front of video cameras. Images are then collected by a computer system that manages their processing and editing - always in real-time - and the result is projected onto a screen. All this allows for the creation of a journey into boundless imagination.
