The musician and composer Orlando Barreto, also known as Pantera, was born in Santiago Island, Cape Verde, in 1967, and left us at the age of 33. In the last few years, his daughter Darlene - who was only 6 years when her father died -, has been thoroughly researching Pantera's life and work; that was the reason why she challenged Clara Andermatt and João Lucas to pay him a homage.
Pantera created new paths for music in his country. You could see Cape Verde and its people in his voice: by exploring the ways of tradition, he made poetry full of love, insight, and assertiveness. Clara Andermatt and João Lucas developed their own view about those traits, through the experiences they were able to share with him, as a friend and as an artist. Beyond this reunion in the revival of his creativity and affection, they follow a path of exploration by delving into his homeland, customs, and culture, while projecting them into a contemporary world where he also positioned himself.
This is a show built on the wanderings of memory. And it is, above all, an intense and dynamic collaborative experience. Each interpreter establishes a personal relationship in reminiscing about his own experience, and gives us a creative richness that is converted into the value and meaning of this homage.
