Dance
Invited by Encontros do DeVIR, in Faro, to create a piece about the desertification / abandonment of the Serra do Caldeirão region, choreographer and dance performer Vera Mantero made and anthropological voyage to this part of the Algarve.
Drawing on her own video captures and audio and video sources by Michel Giacometti, Vera Mantero casts, in Os Serrenhos do Caldeirão, exercícios em antropologia ficcional, a strong look over traditional and generally rural life practises. The end result of this journey is a multimedia solo piece, a political and cultural diagnosis of a mountain region once greatly inhabited but where silence now reigns supreme.
With this "extended portrait" the choreographer tells of a people that possesses wisdom lost to others, a wisdom that bridges body and spirit, art and the mundane.
