A band open to the creation of a unique contemporary repertoire, Orquestra de Jazz de Matosinhos (OJM) demonstrates, in this concert, an incredible capacity for diving into the history of jazz and reliving unforgettable moments and locales. This programme, envisioned by Manuel Jorge Veloso, has OJM recreate the birth and affirmation of the big bands of jazz, between 1925 and 1945, presenting us with some of their more illustrious creators, practitioners and leaders.
From the origin of the big bands, infused with a certain "symphonic jazz" ingenuity, and the affirmation of Duke Ellington's genius, one of the most brilliant and elegant conductors; passing through "jazz dance", phase that culminates with the revelation of the great Count Basie; and reaching, finally, the age of swing where one can find veritably undying personalities like Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman, the collective visits the entire history of jazz.
