"NOVe - NOVos Tempos NOVas Dramaturgias" is a project by the Cem Palcos company, that invites nine Portuguese playwrights and nine contemporary performers of theatre, dance and music to think up and create nine original shows about the modern metamorphoses. A theme that has fascinated countless writers, philosophers and artists throughout history. With a duration of nine minutes, performances are short, intense and repeated nine times for an audience of nine people in each showing. An intimist, yet safe, project, conceived and presented in a hybrid format. NOVe is a veritable laboratory of dramaturgy and performative creation for our times.Come and see Teatro Viriato like you've never done before.
NOVe #1: E então acontece-me isto "E agora acontece-me isto" (lit.: And now, this happens to me); it's with this small sentence that this short, yet intense, piece starts off. Created and performed by Ana Vargas (and written by Inês Barahona), the play takes the sudden uttered outburst of an adult woman looking at a picture of when she was a child as an excuse to fling us on a journey of reflection about the turns life takes.

NOVe #2: (IN)SATISFACTION"Tenho pressa de sair, quero sentir ao chegar vontade de partir, p'ra outro lugar. Vou continuar a procurar o meu mundo, o meu lugar, porque até aqui eu só estou bem aonde eu não estou." - António Variações. (lit: I'm in a hurry to leave / I want to feel when I arrive / a desire to depart / to another place. I will continue to search for my world, my place / because until now I've only felt good where I am not) I am matter in all possible states and, simultaneously, in no state at all. I'm boiled, fried, scrambled, re-scrambled, dead or alive. I search between the mountains and precipices for a fissure where I fit in. Enraptured by a small, radical change. I transform into something I am not in order to be something I don't want to be.

NOVe #5: O Repouso é uma Ilusão Nine vignettes, akin to haiku, eight and one more. Eight and, right near the audience, the dancer with his movements. Anyone knows about the metamorphosis of tortoises and birds? To know, do we need the carapaces and flightless wings, our bones? Rest is an illusion because in this ritual of living there is only just movement. Movement is change, and often, it's transfiguration, metamorphosis. With each passing instant there is a change, a turn, a disguise, joy at a new or different condition. Dance is life. Isn't it?

NOVe #8: Alguma coisa se há-de ver A common event happens: two people decide to go to the Theatre. It is absolutely paramount that they go to the Theatre, as is the case with most people. And, when that need hits, so rises the willingness to sit through anything. What matters is that they go to the Theatre. We'll see what's there when we get there. "Alguma coisa se há-de ver" is a performance with a real spirit of inter-communication, inter-inactive, inter-incomplete, inter-intelligible. It's a performance to inter-watch.
