Conscious of the difficulty in promoting contemporary dance in Portugal, Teatro Viriato has been developing ongoing actions of support for Portuguese choreographers, be they emergent or established, and have also took up the task of sensibilising the audience to this artistic discipline.For the fourth year in a row, the dance showing New Age, New Time will occupy Teatro Viriato, for the duration of a week, bringing with it the newest choreographic creations that represent the highlights of this domain in present day Portugal. More than providing a meeting place for choreographers and programming agents, for performers and the public, the cycle New Age, New Time invites the audience to a celebration of contemporary dance.
For the first time, the contemporary dance showing also hosts the projection of a choreographic movie designed by choreographer Romulus Neagu and edited by Constantin Georgescu, reflecting upon the motility of the body in dance and swimming. This work also explores the movements' body potential and the environs where they are created. The piece is furthermore complemented by an art installation authored by João Dias, and coproduced by Teatro Viriato, that simulates one of the objects from the film, a pool, where frames of movement are projected which the public can manipulate with their own hands.

Since 2014, dance showing New Age, New Time, stopped being just about staging venues. Taking advantage of the proximity to Escola de Dança Lugar Presente and Teatro Viriato, the cycle started offering a myriad of classes to be scheduled during New Age, New Time. The goal is to allow Lugar Presente students, and all other interested parties, to expand their knowledge with choreographers and dancers that are principal figures of Portuguese dance.
