From the moment our doors opened, Teatro Viriato has committed to support national contemporary dance in all its multiple readings of body and movement.
In 2020 we embrace the ninth edition of "New Age, New Time", a privileged space for showing and thinking about dance, where renowned choreographers cross paths with those with burgeoning careers, and where emancipated audiences will gather to discuss, critique and analyse the shows staged the previous day, guided by Paula Varanda. This year we are proud to bring you the delicate dialogue of São Castro and António M Cabrita about the work and literary characters of José Saramago; João dos Santos Martins writes about how he dances language and speaks dance; João Fiadeiro invites us to another disconcerting marathon where he, very astutely, asks: "What do we want to do before?" and where we can watch the Maria João Guardão documentary about "João Fiadeiro | este afecto que me ocupa". Margarida Belo Costa challenges us to think about the women in the life of Faust and Roberto Olivan questions the very heartbeat of our daily existence. Why do we dance even before we know how to walk? What kind of bodies are these that feel and broadcast emotion, building states of mind through their movement in space, interacting with other bodies in a physical meeting, as real as is it urgent in a world temporarily averse to crowds and the touch of strangers? More than ever before, contemporary dance is a stage for the metamorphosis of bodies, the confession, through gestures, of what weare in these times.

This year, in a effort to promote dialogue between different generations of artists, we are joined by dance school Lugar Presente's "Lugar Futuro" festival. This festival will take place between the 20th and the 22nd of November in Viseu, with a programme and schedule coordinated together with NANT. This, we hope, will allow our new and renowned artists to experience what every showing has to offer, sharing their vision and ideas in an healthy cross-generational exchange.
