After directing Almada, Um Nome de Guerra/Nós Não Estamos Algures (Casa de Serralves, 2012), MIMA-FATÁXA sees the return of João Sousa Cardoso to the work of José de Almada Negreiros with a show designed from three texts by this cutting edge author. Os Ingleses fumam Cachimbo (1919), MIMA-FATÁXA (1919/1920) and A Cena do Ódio (1915) are performed by singer Ana Deus and actor Ricardo Bueno, accompanied by twenty local participants. MIMA-FATÁXA revisits the vitality of ideas and language present in the first Modernism, giving us a raw interpellation of the cultural, social and political life of our present day country, on this path of provocation that Almada Negreiros first gave us and bequeathed to future generations.
Embodying the voice and vision of Almada Negreiros, João Sousa Cardoso questions the place of public word in Portugal and builds up a perspective of hope in the regeneration of collective life, in the dawn of a new century.
