EXHIBITION
Twenty years after the invitation by Jorge Salavisa to stage direct the piece Quatro Árias de Ópera for Ballet Gulbenkian, Clara Andermatt, João Fiadeiro, Paulo Ribeiro and Vera Mantero met, once again, to dance, under the direction of choreographer João dos Santos Martins (who was born between the 80s and the 90s, the period when the New Portuguese Dance movement emerged).
The end result was Reencontro (lit.: meeting again), a rare moment promoted by Teatro Viriato at Solar do Vinho do Dão, in the city of Viseu. A celebration filled to the brim with the ephemerality of dance, but also with the time and space of that occasion that happened only in the 26th of April, 2016, and was never repeated since.
Ephemerality now countered by Carlos Fernandes's photographs exhibited one year after the Reencontro. Menos 21 records a unique point in the history of contemporary dance - the gathered movements of four of the biggest names in New Portuguese Dance - in a exhibition that, just like the show it portrays, reveals itself to be a singular means of remembering that Reencontro.
