A renowned beacon of Portuguese interventionist theatre, Teatro da Cornucópia was founded in 1973 by Jorge Silva Melo and Luís Miguel Cintra, during the dark days of fascism, to fight the dictatorship on stage. With an interventionist journey spanning more than 40 years, the company has played a prominent role in the history of Portuguese theatre, which is the focus of this documentary “Memórias do Teatro da Cornucópia” (Memories of Teatro da Cornucópia) by director Solveig Nordlund.
Among the classics, a project is born and comes to an end. But the iconic voices of Luís Miguel Cintra and set designer Cristina Reis remain. Together, guided by images, they bear witness by telling this story.
Celebrating World Theatre Day this way, Teatro Viriato not only hosts the screening of this film but also pays tribute to one of the companies that has contributed most to contemporary theatre in Portugal.
