Meio Corpo is the name of the newest production by Ensemble - Sociedade de Atores. After their collaboration in Hamlet (that premiered at Teatro Viriato in 2002) both company and stage director explore Meio Corpo as "an amusement" or, to sound a bit more French, a "heterotopia", something that is only possible with a cast and director who have crossed paths before, in many projects.
From a play commissioned to playwright Jacinto Lucas Pires by Ensemble, this venue is a new stage adventure based in the loose adaptation, by Ricardo Pais, of the original work. A dream is staged, simultaneously old-fashioned and high-tech: Between words "taped to the skin", with which a mysterious Big Sister hopes to quell any and all will, and presumptions of literature, stolen from the imagination of all by an Author-event-planner-writing -animator, there's a game of metaphysical Blind Man's Buff and permissiveness at a Cocktail Party where dark attire is mandatory, a grand piano, techno music and other special effects. When the show premiered at CCB, João Carneiro wrote in Expresso, "From a text by Jacinto Lucas Pires, Ricardo Pais and Ensemble created a parable about the truth of art".
It was on stage at Teatro Carlos Alberto, Oporto, between the 18th of September and the 4th of October and will afterwards be staged at Teatro Académico Gil Vicente, Coimbra, on October 22nd
