A beam of light bursts through the gloom of the audience- shining through the darkness, like a lighthouse. I inhabit this sunset, in anticipation. A point of light arises, a mysterious will-of-the-wisp, followed by many others dancing around it. I touch it, talk to it, hide from it. The speed is getting dizzyingly faster, and the noise settles in. The bodies move under the growing pressure, towards an early disintegration, towards plunging in the void. I close my eyes and I let the light guide me.
« "Lumina" is a successor to "Umbra" which seeks to create a line of dialogue and challenge between two shows separated in time. "Lumina" was put forward as Bestiário's for the first edition of Bolsa O Espaço do Tempo - Fundação La Caixa BPI, and was selected as one of the two winning entries in the post-emergent category. We proposed to Manuel Abrantes, the lighting designer we've been working with, that he should helm the artistic creation of a show opposite to "Umbra", a counterpoint, the film negative, the full moon of the already presented new moon. "Lumina" was born out of necessity to talk about the light, speed, and noise, but also from the non-conformity towards the proposal of following a different path for the artistic process. Much like the light, omnipresent and uninterrupted, dictating contemporary Man how he should behave 24/7, in this process the lighting design will dictate the poetic and plastic construction of the artistic team. That excess and that speed, recently questioned a lot, will be used as vanishing point for "Lumina's" dramaturgy. To be true to the proposal of creating a show around the concept of Light, it is only fair that we start from it. »Bestiário
