The ‘Romain de Fauvel' is a satirical and allegorical poem from 1310, attributed to Gervais de Bus, partly set to music by Philippe Vitry and accompanied by beautiful illuminations. This poem tells the story of a horse named Fauvel who one day, dissatisfied with his stable, decides to move into his master's rooms, chasing him out of his quarters. He thus became the most illustrious figure in the neighbourhood. Venerated by the clergy and the nobility, married to Vanglory and having Envy, Lust or Adultery as his usual guests, Fauvel takes it upon himself to procreate and multiply as much as possible so that foolishness, corruption and immorality may finally and unequivocally lead the world to its end.
As we live in such calm and healthy times, full of solidarity and good manners, without intrigue or betrayal, the students of the 3rd year of actors of the Higher School Of Drama And Film chose, as their final exercise, to work on a musical allied to the popular wisdom that informs us that cycles repeat themselves, leading us to suspect that when we least expect it, a ‘two-legged donkey' will be preferred again over a four-legged one, and entrusted with power. 700 years after it was written, the ‘Roman de Fauvel' is still relevant today.
