After a run of memorable shows in 2024 - including appearances at London’s Barbican and Primavera Sound, also in Porto - Lambchop return to Europe for a new series of intimate performances.

On “Punching the Clown,” the seventeenth album by the Nashville-based alternative country band, the group’s lead singer and creative force, Kurt Wagner, returns to his roots of composing with just his voice and guitar. Once again partnering with musician and producer Andrew Broder, he studied melodies and songwriters, allowing their “madness, pain, and truth” to become his own.

Wagner wanted to become a “better” composer — which may sound strange to the band’s longtime fans — and his striving is on display in an album of disarming humanity. Sometimes wry and sometimes heartbreaking, unblinkingly idiosyncratic yet precise as cut glass, “Punching the Clown” is the darndest thing.
