A two night party in honour of 15 years of activity. That's how Teatro Viriato decided to start off 2014 with two concerts that have in common that 'something' quintessentially Portuguese that transpires from both the music of Júlio Pereira and Carmen Souza.
Having journeyed through a multiverse of sound that led Júlio Pereira to many different times, places and creative landscapes, the well-known composer and multi-instrumentalist now revisits the acoustic universe of the cavaquinho. This is not a re-tread of old ground, but rather an updating of sounds, ways, modes and styles, where the mandolin and the musical geography of Júlio Pereira reflects a constant search for new paths.
In this concert, Júlio Pereira presents some of the songs of his new record Cavaquinho.pt, released at a time when the composer has made several efforts to try and have the cavaquinho recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
