Julia Kent is a composer and cellist who uses processed electronic sounds and samples to evoke surrealist landscapes, wandering among wonder and contemplation, near-silent intimacy and expansiveness of intense cinematography.Julia Kent, besides her productions for cinema, television, theatre, and dance, she has five released records, and she is often found in prestigious international festivals, such as Primavera Sound, Mutek, Meltdown and Unsound. Related to her work, we point out the specialised critiques seen in newspapers like The Guardian and BBC 6 Music, among others.
We may count with a unique and unprecedented concert in Portugal, where we'll have the opportunity to get to know her latest album, "Temporal", published by Leaf.
In Teatro Viriato goes alongside with her the art of the award-winning visual artist, Antoine Schmitt, creator of pieces in the shape of objects, installations, and site-specific to address the process of movement in all its modalities and question its intrinsic, plastic, philosophical or social conceptual problems. In this case, he brings to us the generative and interactive video, Origin, created for the composer Julia Kent, so she can play it while introducing herself. Live generated using a programmed algorithm sensitive to the spectral dimensions of the sounds produced by the composer, Origin is a program with its own behaviour, in different and subtle ways. Inspired by the dynamics of black holes, their limits and the origin of the universe, where powerful forces happening right here right now, like music itself, generate complex, delicate and stable forms.
