Four years after their last work, Chocolate, Maria João and Mário Laginha return with a new album. Iridescente once again demonstrates this duo's unique talent and creativity, maintaining a partnership of rare complicity for over two decades. Originating from a concert commissioned by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian to be presented within the ambit of the Músicas do Mundo cycle, the sounds of Iridescente were composed for an unusual formation: voice, piano, accordion, harp and percussion. Maria João once again pens all lyrics and, for the very first time, writes the music that lends its name to the album with all remaining pieces being authored by Mário Laginha.
Difficult to pin down and label, the music they make reveals the originality and influences of the countries through which they travel, references that when added to the talent the audience has come to expect from them guarantees that, on stage, they'll exude wondrous unique moments of emotion.
