The stage director and artistic director of Teatro D. Maria II, Tiago Rodrigues, embarked in the challenge of rewriting three greek tragedies from the reading of Euripides, Sophocles and Aeschylus. Three different shows created with the urgency of our time, in dialogue with the greek tragedy repertoire, already so distant but yet still so present.
Stationed in the city of Aulis, waiting for a good wind that helps them to navigate to Troy and rescue Helen, the greeks are surprised by a terrible oracle. Agamemnon, king of Argos, would have to sacrifice his own daughter, Iphigenia, so that the wind that moves the sails would start blowing again. In the Euripides text rewriting by Tiago Rodrigues, is by the waves of his own memory that the characters sail in an attempt of telling the story. Does anyone remember what was happening in Aulis when everything starts?
