HUGO CARVALHAIS TRIO

Challenging, intelligent and frugal are some of the adjectives that one can use to classify the music written by the Hugo Carvalhais Trio. Band members, pianist Gabriel Pinto, drummer Mário Costa and double bass player - and leader - Hugo Carvalhais, amaze with their excellent skills of improvisation, creating a sound unfettered by many of the clichés of avant-jazz.
They're a collective of growing visibility, thanks to the favourable reception of their début record Nebulosa, for many national jazz critics one of the best albums of 2010, receiving that same accolade from the editorial staff of jazz.pt magazine.
Nebulosa is made up of interrupted melodies, intersected rhythms and suspending tempos, distributed throughout ten tracks carefully orchestrated by Hugo Carvalhais.
