Five years since his last creation, Tiago Guedes returns with Hoje. Painfully aware of the troubled times we live in today, the choreographer builds his composition from the idea of an unstable ground - a metaphor for contemporary reality. On stage, instability, demonstration, contention, demands, joint decisions, mobilization and confrontation are evoked.
Hoje is a group that listens to what is beyond the scope of action, and a group that falls asleep. A cohesive group that goes out onto the street, but which is also tender and vulnerable. A group seeking purchase on unstable, ever shifting terrain that does nothing but bury you today, but may well help you reach newer heights tomorrow.
"Committed to today's world, and drawing breath from a promising new generation of performers, this is amongst the best Portuguese dance seen in the last years, and signals the existence, in this hopeless Portugal, of a creative vitality rowing against the tide and reminding us of what we can do when everything around seems to crumble", wrote dance critic Luísa Roubaud in Público.
