The meeting between António Eustáquio and Carlos Barretto occurs under the aegis of the guitolão, a new Portuguese instrument, a chordophone, dreamt by Carlos Paredes and built by master craftsman Gilberto Grácio, that hints at a Portuguese guitar but has a lower sound, a wider timbre range and a unique personality.
António Eustáquio and Carlos Barretto present their innovative project, characterised by respect for technical quality and performance precision, where the guitolão and the double bass share an improvised sonorous coherence always in constant dialogue.
Side by side, the result of this endeavour, while hardly capable of belonging to the canons of jazz, is extremely near its principal characteristics: authenticity and creativity.
