Premiere
Inheritances, values, offspring, sex, disease and death are the main themes of Gata em Telhado de Zinco Quente (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof), a tragedy penned by Tennessee Williams, and also the third Artistas Unidos' premiere at Teatro Viriato.
In the tragic South of Tennessee Williams everything revolves around money. Premiered in New York in 1955 under the direction of Elia Kazan, this play became famous thanks to the beautiful film starring Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman and Burl Ives. However both Kazan's version and the movie directed by Richard Brooks in 1958 avoided many of the themes in the original text. Is it possible to recover for the stage what the silver screen set in stone? Can we once again see Maggie the Cat has a gold-digger blinded by lack of money? Is it possible to bring back these dilemmas, this anxiety, and this desperate eagerness? For stage director Jorge Silva Melo the answer is yes.
