Before bringing you the stage play “Suplicantes”, about the current tragedy of migrations caused by dreadful motives, we show one of the silver screen stories that inspired Sara Barros Leitão’s creative process.
“Io capitano”, a film by Matteo Garrone that was nominated for Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards (2024), tells us the intrepid journey of two boys that leave Senegal with the dream of reaching Europe. A contemporary odyssey that crosses the desert, the sea and the ambiguities of the human being.
“A tough, violent and moving portrait about what goes on inside those who depart” – this is how Sara Barros Leitão describes this film, and the audience will have the opportunity to talk to her at the end of the projection about these and other themes.
With “Cinema de inspiração”, Teatro Viriato’s programming attains a new spirit: allowing audiences to watch the movies that inspired some of the creations that take to our stage.
