A long road goes through Azaro's village. There, in Africa, earth burns and light punishes in such a way that sometimes, one can see things that are not there. Azaro sharpens his eyes and sees his mother disappear down the road in one direction, his father in another, each one walking a little bit further every day in order to make ends meet.
What road is this that gives and takes? That takes all from who has nothing? What kind of life is this by the roadside? A life where the belly grumbles, heat scorches and stories fill the loneliness. Azaro sits with his father every night, waiting for a story. One night, his father speaks. He tells his son the story of the famished road. The story of the monster in the road. A magical story that becomes a universal myth about poverty and the scarcity of resources.
