In this workshop, the artists propose a practical immersion into the creative universe of their show “Um Abraço ou um Beijinho”. Through various movement tasks, choreographic games and moments of collective reflection, participants will have the opportunity to explore how Pimba music (an umbrella term for Portuguese types or genres of music with an uptempo style and folk song features, corny romantic or vulgar lyrics, which is often associated with poorly educated public from rural areas and suburban poor or working-class neighbourhoods, as well as with Portuguese economic migrants living abroad) and its cultural codes can be questioned, deconstructed and reinvented through dance.
Starting from the notions of masculinity, affection and belonging, participants are invited to use their body as a research space: between exaggeration and delicateness, strength and vulnerability, laughter and criticism. This workshop tries to stimulate a physical and artistic conscience that mixes personal expression and social awareness, incentivising each person to expand their relationship with dance, their own identity and popular culture.
