MASTERCLASS
In line with the presentation of doctoral dissertations on artistic creation, Luís Calheiros was invited by Teatro Viriato to head the masterclass Elogio do Feio na Arte: Fealdade no Séc. XX.
Having the academic document as a starting point, Calheiros broaches the concept of the beautiful-ugly and its impact on 20th century art, specially in the domain of painting.
The artist also draws on various essayists that studied the phenomenology of the ugly, like Umberto Eco, Raymond Polin, Pedro Azara and Karl Rosenkranz, as well as different artistic movements of the 20th century.
