A piano, a pianist, a music piece, a dance, a choreographer... Dancing to play? Or playing to dance? While playing a music piece, the pianist gets emotionally involved with her performance, and from her body emanates, as if improvised, a dance... What if these movements were choreographed? That is the essence of Danza Ricercata - to build a choreography for a pianist, for a music piece while it is played. In this work, Tânia Carvalho shows her fascination with expressionism, with the distortion of reality as a means of provoking emotional response. By manipulating the gestures that the pianist does naturally, improvising, the choreographer tries to hyperbolize them, causing stronger emotional responses.
