Menina is the latest album by Cristina Branco, world acclaimed singer, considered by many as a symbol of sophistication in the domain of fado. In this new record, the singer surrounded herself with new authors and composers (representatives of many different sounds in the current portuguese music scene) in order to talk about the female universe, with songs that assert its strength and diversity.
Filho da Mãe and André Henriques (Linda Martini), Cachupa Psicadélica, Mário Laginha, António Lobo Antunes, Nuno Prata (Ornatos Violeta), Pedro da Silva Martins and Luís Martins (Deolinda), Jorge Cruz (Diabo na Cruz) and Luís Severo (Cão da Morte) are some of the musicians and composers that collaborated in the creation of this album. Menina also includes a traditional fado with lyrics by Amália Rodrigues.
Having the conservative and traditionalist roots of fado as a starting point, Cristina Branco gives audiences a powerful alternative - the end result of a mixture of diverse influences that come from poetry, exquisite composers and excellent musicians - that makes for a truly unique live concert.
