Can a city be recognised by the sounds it makes? To prove such a thing possible, Associação Binaural/Nodar proposes, with its educational project Cidades Sonoras, to do a sound mapping of Viseu's historic quarter through the recording of sounds and registration of geographical coordinates for each and every sound source, together with other contextualizing data, including photographic records.
The project's objective is to stimulate the detection, by the participants, of the historical zones' acoustic details, as well as making them interact with the city's so-called voices of memory, which have a very important part in this collection process.
The final result will be the collective creation of a sounds catalogue, integrated into a digital map.
