Tiago Rodrigues revisits the universe of Madame Bovary, having as a starting point the trial of Gustave Flaubert for immorality. Originally serialized in La Revue de Paris, 1856, Flaubert's novel tells the story of a woman who, in order to escape the banalities and emptiness of provincial life, resorts to having adulterous affairs and living well beyond her means. The opus would be received by a faction of french society as an attack on christian morals. In January 1857 begins the trial that sees the author face charges of obscenity. Madame Bovary is nowadays considered a seminal work of realism and one of history's most influential novels.
In Bovary the stage director explores the battleground where law and art, artists and State clash.
