In tribute to the pioneering role of Amélia Rey Colaço in the history of Portuguese theatre, the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, A Oficina / Centro Cultural Vila Flor, O Espaço do Tempo, and Teatro Viriato annually award the Amélia Rey Colaço Scholarship. Aimed at supporting the production of performances by young artists and emerging companies based in Portugal, this creation grant seeks to contribute to the renewal of the Portuguese theatre landscape by injecting new ideas and voices.
With a monetary value of €25,000, the Amélia Rey Colaço Scholarship aims to support the production of the winning project, which will also benefit from three artistic residencies, to take place in Guimarães, Montemor-o-Novo, and Viseu, between November 2026 and March 2027. The winning project must result in a performance, scheduled to premiere on June 9, 2027, at the Pequeno Auditório of Centro Cultural Vila Flor, in Guimarães, followed by presentations at the other partner venues of the Scholarship.

- Applicants/entities of the finalist projects must ensure availability for an interview with the Scholarship jury members via Zoom, on the mornings of May 18 and 19, 2026 (Monday and Tuesday), from 10:00 to 13:00. The results will be publicly announced on May 27, 2026.
