Since the start of this year, after Teatro da Cornucópia closed its doors, that stage director Luis Miguel Cintra has been working in four different Portuguese cities to develop the theatre project Um D. João Português. After a first meeting at Teatro Viriato, the director returns once again to stage part of that project, that will be presented in in its full version in 2018.
In As árvores (dos desgostos), after D. João received a message from the innkeeper, that warns the characters that they are being followed by twelve men, we find them fleeing. After the confrontation with D. Elvira's brothers, wife that, in the meantime, he abandoned, they pass through a cemetery where they find the funereal statue of the Commendator that D. João "sent to the other side". Against the warnings of his manservant Esganarelo, he invites the statue to dinner. To the amazement of both of them, the dead man accepts the invitation.
