Dance
Identity is the starting point for the works presented at the end of this school year. But what is identity? Is it our self or collective identity as members of society? As members of a school, a city, a country, a continent? Of a civilization? All these ideas are confused when we try to organize them in a "matrioska" of levels. We cannot understand what is more or less important. What is inside or outside of us. And what about Portuguese cultural identity? Does it exist? Is our cultural identity in danger with globalization? The truth is that the so-called Portuguese culture was also grounded on Africa, America and even the East. Are there any pure cultures or decontaminated art? Culture and art are inseparable elements from all humanity!
On Teatro Viriato's stage, students from our school transform themselves into a variety of characters, assuming movements of both their, and other, bodies. As a driving force, we seek to use Portuguese sounds, as a form of uniting body expressions and dance styles. We want a lot of Is, YOUS, US, and YOUs to fit on the stage. Revealing their multiple identities, they jump, run, laugh, twirl, look, dive, float, hug, feel, get involved... We hope to make you vibe!
