ALBERTINE, O CONTINENTE CELESTE

THEATER

Albertine, O Continente Celeste is an original play, written by Gonçalo Waddington, having as a starting point Marcel Proust's magnum opus À la recherche du temps perdu (In Search of Lost Time) and also the works of some of the most renowned theoretical physicists and cosmologists of our times, such as Stephen Hawking, Lee Smolin, Sean Carroll, Carlo Rovelli and Pedro G. Ferreira.
Gonçalo Waddington's aim in approaching these fundamental works of art and science was to reflect upon memory and time. Memory as a tool to understand the past, but also imagined memory, purposefully or not, rebuilding who we believe to have been and, consequently, reinventing our Self. Time is here looked at as the origin of life in the Universe, or, better yet, as the origin of the Universe itself. An inner search versus an outer search. Proust searched for the essence. The others searched for the origin.
