A PERNA ESQUERDA DE TCHAIKOVSKI

Dance

To create a show for a ballerina that has reached the end of her career, namely ballerina Barbora Hruskova. This was the challenge made by the National Ballet Company to director Tiago Rodrigues and to Mário Laginha.
In collaboration with Barbora, both translated unto stage this definitive moment when a body is about to abandon dance. They also share what classical dance obsessively hides: the infernal work that is behind the ballet's ethereal beauty, military discipline, dedication which is almost devotion, incessantly searching for perfection, the hardships, self-criticism, and the pleasure before the breath-taking tiredness.
More than a biography, A Perna Esquerda de Tchaikovski is a play about the memory of the body and ballerina Barbora. In strict dialogue with the piano of Mário Laginha, who performs on stage original music composed by him, Hruskova remembers her career and the marks that a life of dance has outlined on her body.
