THEATER
Theatre companies Auéééu - Teatro, Os Possessos and Teatro da Cidade work together, for the very first time, in the creation of this production, based on Thornton Wilder's Our Town.
The small North-American town of Grover's Corners, at the start of the twentieth century, is the fictional setting imagined for this play that unfolds before the audience from the point of view of a stage manager. The character drives the entire narrative and invites spectators to imagine those streets, those families, their relationships and day-to-day lives, including love, marriage and death. The banality of days is expressed through a theatre mechanism that allows us to watch and re-watch life. That is, after all, the unique place that theatre can offer: a meeting spot with the dead where we can contemplate life itself.
In A Nossa Cidade, the authors collaborate to design and create a town, fully aware of the influence exerted over themselves by the townships they know - and the ones they do not - and, above all else, aware of the fact that every single one has a role to play, in theatre as well as in the cities they inhabit. The greatest strength of this unprecedented cooperation between companies is, in fact, this sense of questioning, of dialogue and observation.
