A LESTE

EXHIBITION

Bodies do not betray origins - movement appears universal, because dance is a language of the senses. Created in order to potentiate dialogue and the exchange of experiences between western and eastern Europe, in the domain of contemporary dance, project W-Est_Where gathered performers and choreographers from different latitudes, at Teatro Viriato, for two consecutive years, in a spirit of mutual sharing.
The visual records, now made public with this exhibition, were taken through the eyes of photographer José Alfredo, who, in A Leste, depicts all productions that were on stage within the ambit of the aforementioned project created by Cie. Jasmina (France), Teatro Viriato (Portugal), HIPP (Croatia) and Trafó House (Hungary). Using photographs, José Alfredo manages to unveil the balanced and representative geography of this Europe of movements that he brilliantly captured with the help of his lens.
A professional photographer since 1982, José Alfredo started collaborating with Teatro Viriato in 1998. His work having been displayed in both collective and individual exhibitions, his career is also marked by several awards won in photography contests.
