New production
One of America’s favourite operas returns to the MET after 30 years. James Robinson’s stylish production transports audiences to Catfish Row on the Charleston waterfront, vibrant with the music, dancing, emotion, and heartbreak of its inhabitants.
Gershwin was one of the first composers to find inspiration in the energy of black culture music, breaking the conventional model for American classical music. The genie of his work has endured and he is, today, acclaimed as one of the most innovative and popular composers of the 20th century.
This new MET production stars the dynamic duo Eric Owens and Angel Blue, and an extraordinary cast that includes Golda Schultz, Latonia Moore, Denyce Graves, Frederick Ballentine, Alfred Walker and Ryan Speedo Green.
