LAST
Choreography ANTÓNIO CABRITA and SÃO CASTRO | With live music QUARTETO DE CORDAS DE MATOSINHOS | COMPANHIA PAULO RIBEIRO

Premiere

To place music and body in parallel – with all its movement – makes it difficult to imagine if it is the dance that reveals the intrinsic characteristics of music, as if translating it; or if the music lauds the movements of the body and guides it in a musical gestuality. António Cabrita and São Castro choose music as the main conductor of the choreographic act of Last.

In a conscious challenge that the place of the choreographer becomes more transparent and exposed, the choreographers propose to create a choreographic work for a musical work: The Late String Quartets, by Ludwig van Beethoven. Choice dictated by the structure complexity of the score, the boldness, the contrasts, the poetics, the logic of the exposed composition and by a wrathful man and immersed in deafness.

Last carries in itself the polarity between end and continuation, both in the sense of being the last as well as its verbal form of somethings that lasts (to last).
